37 million portions of Norwegian seafood are served worldwide every day, so it’s important that everyone knows about its provenance. It’s the task of the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC) to make sure that people from all over the world know why the best seafood comes from Norway. From joint marketing activities and active information work, to monitoring trends and developments in seafood exports, the NSC helps to put Norwegian seafood on the map.
Who are we?
Owned by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, the NSC is responsible for increasing the demand for and consumption of Norwegian seafood, as well as developing new markets. We represent everyone in the Norwegian seafood industry, so we are funded through fees levied on all exports of Norwegian seafood.
The NSC is headquartered in Tromsø, and maintains local offices in twelve of Norway’s most important seafood markets around the globe: Sweden, Germany, UK, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Brazil, Japan, China, Singapore and USA.
Reputational risk management is highly prioritized within the Seafood Council. The Seafood Council provides correct and up-to-date information about the Norwegian fisheries and aquaculture industry.

Norway’s approach to sustainable, seasonal fishing means that everyone can enjoy the delicious taste of Norwegian mackerel – and it’s our job at the NSC to make sure that everyone knows what makes it so special.
Our activities are varied. We help market Norwegian seafood, increasing demand and supporting our exporters' own sales efforts. We also provide insights into the industry with statistics, trends and trade information.
It’s also our role to produce consumer and trade PR, building the Norwegian brand and amplifying its heritage through provenance to journalists, industry insiders and key influencers. From press trips to case studies and the frequent publication of export results, we do everything we can to ensure Norwegian seafood is known worldwide.
